The Full Brief

About This Product

UV is the answer to the materials fiber lasers ruin. A 5W UV laser marks by breaking surface bonds rather than burning, so glass, clear acrylic, silicone, PCB substrate, cosmetics packaging and soft plastics come out crisp and undamaged - no melting, no yellowed halo, no heat distortion.

The handheld UV laser marking machine price in Kenya is KSh 420,000 (). It runs off a lithium battery at 7kg, so it is portable in the same way our fiber marker is, with a 70 x 70mm marking window.

  • Cold marking - no heat damage on sensitive or transparent materials
  • 70 x 70mm window, lithium battery, 7kg
  • Free operator training and maintenance guidance
  • Tested before shipping, delivered countrywide

This is a specialist machine and we will say so plainly: if you are marking steel tools all day, buy the fiber marker instead and spend less. Buy this when your work is glass, cosmetics, electronics or premium packaging - the jobs nobody else in the market can take.

What it earns

What you can make with it

These are jobs Colorshade runs on this equipment, not a list of things it could theoretically do. Ask us what any one of them pays before you commit.

Cosmetics and beauty packaging

Batch codes and expiry dates onto bottles, jars and tubes without melting the plastic or clouding the surface.

Glassware and bottles

Names, logos and measures marked into glass. A fiber laser cracks or frosts it; this does not.

Clear acrylic awards and signage

Crisp marking inside and on clear acrylic, with none of the yellowed halo heat leaves behind.

Electronics, PCB and cable marking

Component identification and serial numbers on boards and connectors, where any heat at all is a defect.

Medical and laboratory items

Permanent identification on instruments and containers that has to survive cleaning without ink.

Premium gift and packaging work

The jobs that pay best in the gift shop trade precisely because so few machines in Kenya can take them.

Before you buy

What it costs to run

The price on this page is what you pay once. This is what the machine costs you afterwards — the part most suppliers leave you to find out on your own.

Consumables None. No ink, no solvent, no etching chemicals.
Cost per mark The electricity, and nothing else.
Power Its own lithium battery on site, or an ordinary 240V socket in the workshop.
Wear parts The lens. Keep it clean and it lasts; neglect it and it is the first thing to go.
Routine maintenance Clean the lens, check cable connections, keep it dry and dust-free.
The honest one This is a specialist machine with a narrower job list than the fiber marker. It earns more per job and it gets fewer of them.

Straight answers

Questions buyers actually ask

Why buy this instead of the cheaper fiber marker?

Only if your materials demand it. A fiber laser marks by heating, which is perfect on steel and ruinous on glass, clear acrylic, silicone and cosmetics packaging - it clouds, cracks or leaves a yellowed halo. UV marks cold. If you are marking metal tools all day, buy the fiber and spend less. Buy this when your work is the material a fiber laser destroys.

What does "cold marking" actually mean?

The UV beam breaks the bonds at the surface rather than burning through them, so the mark appears with almost no heat spreading into the material around it. That is the whole reason it works on things that warp, melt or craze.

Will it mark metal too?

It can, but that is not what you buy it for and it is slower at it than a fiber laser. If your work is a mix of metal and delicate materials, tell us the split on WhatsApp - sometimes the honest answer is two machines, and sometimes it is that you do not need this one yet.

Handheld or the bench version?

Handheld goes to the work and suits varied, occasional jobs. The bench version holds focus across a production run, which is what you want the moment you are marking a hundred identical bottles rather than one. Most people start handheld.

Is it hard to learn?

No harder than the fiber marker, and the training is the same: free, hands-on, and we do not finish until you can run a job on your own. UV settings are gentler by nature - the risk on this machine is under-marking, not burning something.

What is the lead time?

7-14 days. It is not on our shelf, and we would rather say so now than take a deposit and manage you afterwards. Ask on WhatsApp for the current position before you commit.
