Media Wall Backdrops: Sizing One So Logos Survive the Photo

Pass The Sheet Around

A backdrop decides whose logos appear in every event photo. How to choose the width for the number of people, and lay logos out so cropping keeps them.

Look at the photos from any press briefing, awards night or signing ceremony and you will see the same thing behind the people: a branded wall. Whose logos appear in those photos, and whether they appear at all, was decided weeks earlier when someone chose a backdrop size and approved a layout. Most of the mistakes are in the layout, not the size.

The three sizes

Our backdrop banners are a collapsible frame with a full-colour printed skin, in three widths, all 226 cm tall. The frame assembles for the event and folds down for storage, so one backdrop serves years of functions.

Catalogue prices, October 2026. Group sizes are a practical guide, not a rule.
Width x heightPriceComfortable group in front
230 x 226 cmKSh 32,000A speaker, or a handshake of two or three
370 x 226 cmKSh 39,000A panel or a group of four to six
450 x 226 cmKSh 43,000Award groups, teams, signing tables

Start from the busiest photo you expect. If the biggest moment is a handshake between two people, 230 cm is enough. If ten award winners will line up together, the wide backdrop keeps the logos visible at both ends of the row.

Lay logos out for the crop, not the whole wall

Almost no photo shows the whole backdrop. A phone photo of two people crops to a slice of it, and a social media post crops it again. A layout with one large logo in the middle loses that logo the moment a person stands in front of it.

The arithmetic is simple. The main camera on an iPhone 16 is a 26 mm-equivalent lens, by Apple's own specification. Held upright, the way most guests hold a phone, it takes in a strip only about two metres wide from two metres away; held sideways, about 2.7 metres. Even the 230 cm backdrop is wider than most phone photos of it, so the logos near the edges survive only if they repeat.

The answer is the repeat pattern, often called a step-and-repeat: logos arranged in a staggered grid across the whole surface, so any section of the wall still contains at least one complete logo. With sponsors, alternate them through the grid so each appears across the width rather than clustered in one corner.

Logo size and spacing

  • Big enough to read in a phone photo from a few metres away, small enough that several fit in any crop. Medium logos repeated beat one giant logo.
  • Leave space between them. Logos packed edge to edge stop reading as names and turn into a pattern.
  • Use a plain background. Busy imagery behind the logos fights them in every photo.
  • Ask for a mock-up with figures in front. A preview with people drawn in shows at once which logos disappear.

Transport and set-up

Ask how long the frame takes to assemble and how many people it needs, before the event rather than at it. Book the backdrop to arrive with time to spare, set it up on a flat floor away from doors that open onto it, and check the printed skin is tight with no creases across the logos before the first guest arrives. A creased skin shows in every flash photo.

What else completes the stage

A backdrop is the wall behind the people. The rest of the space needs signs that stand alone. A roll-up banner beside the backdrop or at the entrance is KSh 5,000 with a narrow base or KSh 7,000 with a broad base. Outside the venue, teardrop banners at KSh 7,000 for a pair at 3.5 m, or KSh 9,000 for a pair at 4.5 m, handle wind that would knock a roll-up over.

If you are choosing among the standing banners, the comparison of banner types sets out which works where. And if the backdrop is for a prize-giving or a donation, staging a handover that photographs well covers the cheque and where people stand.

Common questions

What size should an event backdrop be?

Choose it for the largest group that will stand in front at once. A 230 cm backdrop suits a speaker or a handshake, 370 cm a group of four to six, and 450 cm award lines and teams. All three are 226 cm tall.

What is a step-and-repeat backdrop?

A backdrop where logos are repeated in a staggered grid across the whole surface. However a photo is cropped, and whoever stands in front, at least one complete logo stays visible.

How much does a media wall backdrop cost?

KSh 32,000 for 230 x 226 cm, KSh 39,000 for 370 x 226 cm and KSh 43,000 for 450 x 226 cm, including the collapsible frame and the printed skin.

Can the backdrop be reused for other events?

Yes. The frame folds down for storage and sets up again for the next function. If your branding changes, ask whether a new printed skin can be made for the same frame.
